What Is the Difference Between Earned Media and Paid Placement?
Earned media is coverage or contribution secured through editorial merit: a journalist's decision to cover or quote an executive, or an editor's decision to publish a contributed piece based on its quality and relevance. Paid placement is content published in exchange for payment, including sponsored content, native advertising, and paid contributor programs. Both produce indexed content, but earned media carries stronger E-E-A-T signals for AI engines and stronger credibility signals for human readers because it implies editorial vetting.
